Hear me say my name

A former diversity, equity and inclusion intern at Meyer, Safia is thrilled to return and support critical grant operation activities and project development that invest in our communities. In this multifaceted role, she supports all aspects of grant operations as well as supporting special projects for the impact team, including learning and evaluation support.

Growing up as a biracial Black woman in Portland, Safia has experienced firsthand the unique struggles and opportunities that families like hers face. Witnessing her mom’s 22-year career in the nonprofit sector and her dad’s Togolese immigrant journey seeded a deep passion and commitment to racial and economic equity.  She has devoted her professional career to positively impacting underserved communities.

Before Meyer, she worked with The Collins Foundation, PGE where she supported Project Zero, and Get Schooled where she supported Black and Brown youth pursuing college and their first jobs. While earning a business degree at Portland State University, she created and led the Multicultural Business Student Association, a holistic development program for students of color, including international and first-generation students.

Safia finds personal fulfillment in spending time with loved ones and deepening her relationship with nature. Jumping in lakes and hiking the Oregon coast and Mt Hood trails reminds her to be present in the moment.

Safia joined Meyer as an intern from 2020-2021 and rejoined in 2024.
