Luwam Kahassay is the program associate for Meyer’s Justice Oregon for Black Lives initiative. In this role, she hopes to build lasting and transformative relationships with Black Oregonians through program implementation and grants management.

Luwam is inspired by artists and believes in the power of curiosity as a catalyst for change and partnership.

Before joining Meyer, Luwam worked as development manager at the Center for Cultural Power, an organization supporting arts, narrative and cultural strategy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in social entrepreneurship from Warner Pacific University and a Master of Arts in urban and public affairs from the University of San Francisco, grounding her work in systems thinking and cross-sector collaboration.

Luwam currently serves as board secretary for an early-stage nonprofit, Village 503, focused on Black mental health and community well-being.

In her free time, Luwam enjoys spending time in the community, learning new recipes and starting too many new art projects.
