If we're ever going to collectively begin to grapple with the problems that we have collectively, we're going to have to move back the veil and deal with each other on a more human level.
Wilma Mankiller

Karissa’s family taught her that being of service to one’s community and helping the world become more equitable and more awesome are critical components to living an honorable and productive life.

Karissa saw working at Meyer as a chance for her to help channel resources toward the goal of creating more opportunities for more people to reach their full potential and increasing equity throughout Oregon.

“I was drawn to a career in philanthropy because of its potential to mobilize people and resources in support of concrete efforts that measurably improve our world.”

Prior to Meyer, Karissa worked for the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, in various capacities, including grantwriting and program management.

She is an enrolled member of the Cowlitz Tribe and has served as an elected member of its Tribal Council since 2005. She has been a member of the tribe’s education committee since 2000 and has served as chair or vice chair of the committee for most of those years.

Karissa joined the Meyer team in 2007.
